Building Components: This facility is designed and constructed for the repurposing of wide body commercial airliners for an overseas customer base. The facility consists of two hangars 72,000 square feet each, one for heavy maintenance and the other with full paint and corrosion protection capabilities. Within the hangars will be mezzanine space in excess of 30,000 square feet containing shop and storage space with ceilings designated for heavy storage. Among the required amenities required for aircraft heavy maintenance, each hangar contains high expansion foam fire suppression, high bay fluorescent lighting, rolling hangar doors, and trench drains. Situated between the two hangars is a two story structure totaling 80,000 square feet of office and shop space. This office space will contain, engineering, administration, purchasing, and executive office space. Shop space is designated for carpentry, sewing, metal, and avionics to name a few. The remaining space is a fire pump room, hazardous materials storage, shipping, and receiving, storage of ground service equipment, engines, wheels, landing gear, seats, etc.
The exterior of the structure contains a loading dock area, water storage tanks for fire protection, landscaping, signage, visitor, and employee parking. The site contains storm water retention ponds and a pond designated for fire suppression discharge. An apron extension is also constructed connecting the hangar to the taxiway.
Construction challenges include gopher tortoise relocation, storm water management master planning and the raising of a NOAA weather radar tower; to be performed by others.
